Finite Gallery is proud to host International Artist, Stefanie Schmock for this exciting workshop.
The aim of this workshop course is to inspire you to enjoy watercolour painting, to revel in artistic freedom with no constraints or fixed rules. We will explore different techniques and use colours to express our own individual character, our very own heart and soul.
We will let our imaginations run riot, giving full rein to our own creative impulses in flower and landscape paintings.
Colourful flower and landscape subjects lend themselves ideally to contemporary interpretations. Naturally, such paintings should not be mere copies of nature, as your imagination will inspire you to new ideas and insights. Painting what you see subjectively is better than using any photograph/your camera.
Bernhard Vogel, the artist who inspired my interest in watercolour painting, expressed it like this:
“Rhythm is created by the many contrasts that exist in flower paintings. It is akin to music, to an increase in energy, gradually transforming into a living organism independently, its three-dimensional depth spreading across the paper. When a painting is successfully completed, it never ceases to surprise me and I can’t at first take in its newness and unfamiliarity.”
Landscape painting worked on in the studio from photographs has a dynamic momentum of its own. You will be amazed at what you can create by chance and by accident.
You can control this process, for example by applying a “wet on wet” technique, using different washes, blending or blotting the colours, or washing them out of the paper.
“Art is like living life to the full – you just have to let it happen and find its own way”.
