Rachel Milne has recently won the Muswellbrook Art Prize with her detailed painting of The Creator Incubator artspace. Painted on site, the work demonstrates Rachel’s skill in portraying the details of light, colour and space.

Finite Gallery is extremely fortunate to have Rachel continuing to tutor her classes in Observational Painting at Finite Gallery each Friday.

Rachel will guide the class in ways to observe what is before them, and how to translate their observations in paint. These classes will be a combination of structured tuition, and participant lead exploration.

Participants will need to bring their own paints (oil or acrylic), medium, brushes and surfaces (canvas, paper, board etc) Easels and glass palettes will be provided.

Cost: $500/ 10 weeks (or $60/week casual if there is a vacancy) includes morning tea.

Booking is essential as class numbers are strictly limited.

Colour & Texture Coiled Basketry Workshop with

Spend the day learning the coiling technique of basketry using mixed fibres to create visually stunning baskets. Discover the joy of the basketry weaving process. For many basketry weaving is all about the process – a very soothing repetitive process that provides for a calming and meditative experience. Students will also be rewarded by discovering and sharing the delight resulting from creating with other like minded people.

This workshop is suitable for the beginner and an excellent way to explore and extend your own creativity. Trudi will guide you through each step in a relaxed and friendly environment so that each person will take home their own unique and gorgeous basket.

Morning tea is provided, but please bring your lunch (or you can purchase from the nearby café or take-away)

Classes are kept small to allow for optimum individual learning and flexible teaching, so please book early to avoid disappointment.

Sea debris and recycled material workshop

Sea debris and recycled material workshop with

This hands-on workshop allows participants to explore, deconstruct and manipulate alternate materials such as plastic sea debris, and recycled and foraged materials to produce a unique artwork.

We will be using power and hand tools so be prepared for some fun and while getting your hands dirty. Participants will need to bring their own earplugs and safety glasses. Tools and some material will be provided. A full list of requirements will be provided on booking.

Felting Workshop CHANGE OF DATE

Felting Workshop CHANGE OF DATE with

THIS WORKSHOP WILL NOW BE HELD ON FRIDAY 28th January.

In this small group workshop we will explore wet felting. All materials are provided for you to create a piece of felt about 20cm square and a small bowl.

You’ll learn how to lay out the wool tops, decorate your piece, then felt and fill it. By the end of the class you will have a small bowl and piece of beautiful felt about 20cm square that you have created your self to use in other projects (eg a small bag, cushion cover, journal covers, coasters, needle-case) and a small bowl.

This workshop is a great opportunity to enjoy handmade processes and have fun learning how to continue these traditional crafts.

Cost $110 per person. Booking is essential.

Cost includes:
All materials and tools including wool tops in a variety of colours and threads to embellish your pieces.
Your felt pieces will be damp when you leave so a plastic bag to put them in would be useful.

Please bring your lunch (or lunch may be purchased from the nearby café). Tea & coffee and morning tea will be provided.

Through a number of exercises, students will be guided in the use of materials, learn about the importance of line, contour, mark making and tone, and explore other ways to create and present drawings.

This class will alternate with the 4 week Colour Exploration unit.
